Advancing Microbial Research Across Disciplines
— from Fundamentals to Applications — for a Sustainable Future
This research area focuses on microorganisms, which are deeply intertwined with the global environment and all life on Earth. By advancing cutting-edge research spanning both fundamental and applied science, we seek to deepen our understanding of microorganisms, drive the development of innovative technologies for their control and utilization, and contribute to solving a wide range of global challenges and building a sustainable society.
We also make our facilities, technologies, and expertise widely available to the broader community through open research facilities and consortia. In doing so, we support microbial research and foster the development of the next generation of researchers and professionals. Furthermore, by strengthening collaboration with research centers and institutions in Japan and around the world, we aim to serve as a hub that connects diverse fields of microbial research.
