Aiming to realize a sustainable society

This Domain researches advanced applications of satellite data, bringing together researchers from the social sciences, environmental studies, disaster prevention and agriculture to help realize a sustainable society. Governments and private companies in Japan and overseas are launching a wide range of satellites, a trend expected to transform the monitoring of economic, social and global environmental conditions. In particular, satellite data—used until now mainly for Earth observation—is expected to expand into new fields such as economic activity, population movement, urbanization and security. The Domain helps researchers in each field develop innovative applications of satellite data and thereby deepen and accelerate their research. To that end, we promote joint research among researchers and strengthen partnerships with relevant companies in Japan and abroad and with leading universities in Europe and North America.
